In collaboration with the Family Welfare Division (FWD) of the Department of Health Services (DoHS) , Helen Keller Intl Nepal is implementing the Nurturing Health Project, which focuses on strengthening the screening, referral, and management of Hyperglycemia in Pregnancy (HIP), including Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM), within the health system. The project aims to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes by integrating the prevention, early detection, and management of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) throughout the continuum of maternal health services. This includes promoting healthy lifestyle practices through a life-course approach, complemented by community-based interventions, health system strengthening, and health promotion activities. In this context, Helen Keller Intl Nepal is seeking a qualified individual consultant to develop Behavior Change Communication (BCC) materials for NCDs, with a focus on HIP.
Position : Consultant – Develop BCC materials (1 Position )
Location: Kathmandu with field visits (as required)
Duration: Approximately 45 working days
Position Overview
The consultant will be responsible for developing high-quality, culturally appropriate BCC materials on NCDs, with a focus on HIP. The work will be undertaken in alignment with national guidelines and global best practices. The consultant will collaborate with a technical resource partner for the project, and coordinate with relevant government entities to ensure the materials adhere to national priorities and standards.
Key Responsibility
- Conduct a desk review of existing BCC materials and best practices on NCDs and HIP at global and national levels.
- Engage government stakeholders during development to ensure materials are technically accurate, culturally appropriate, and aligned with national guidelines.
- Develop clear, accurate, and actionable key messages for pregnant women, families, and communities.
- Design BCC materials (print, digital, and/or audiovisual) tailored to the cultural context and literacy levels of the target population.
- Pre-test materials with target audiences and incorporate feedback to ensure effectiveness.
- Produce final BCC materials and provide guidance for their dissemination and use.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in public health, Nutrition, Health Promotion, Communication, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in health communication, BCC, or maternal and child health programs.
- Proven experience developing BCC materials, preferably on NCDs or diabetes in pregnancy.
- Knowledge of behavior change communication principles, audience-centered design, and Nepal’s maternal health/NCD context.
- Experience collaborating with government health stakeholders and engaging diverse audiences.
- Strong writing, presentation, and feedback incorporation skills.
Deliverables
- Develop BCC materials in agreed formats with government stakeholders and Helen Keller International (e.g., brochures, posters/flipcharts, videos, social media content).
- Provide final materials in print-ready and editable formats.
- Recommend dissemination channels (health facilities, community outreach, digital media) and monitoring strategies.
